School Bus Accident in Laurel Grove

Police on the scene report that the accident was
was only minor and that no children were
 reported injured.

At approximately 8:45 a.m., St. Mary's County Public Schools Bus no. 608 was involved in a fender bender with a single passenger car. There were 11 children on board being transported. No children were reported hurt according to police on the scene. The driver of the passenger car suffered minor injuries.

Responding units at the time were so overwhelmed with multiple accidents, that transport vehicles were difficult to assign. At one point dispatchers attempted to get an ambulance from Charles to cover the accident, but none were available. Finally, Mechanicsville Volunteeer

 
A single car collided with bus No. 608 in Laurel
Grove.
Rescue responded once they were clear of an earlier accident.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation at this time.

Dangerous roads..
I'm glad to hear that no one was seriously hurt.. The roads were terrible this morning.. I don't mind snow, but I hate driving in it..

DANGEROUS DANDEROUS
ONCE AGAIN ST MARY'S COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD BLEW IT!!! THOSE POOR BUS DRIVERS. THE NEWS STATIONS WERE TELLING US TO STAY HOME AND OFF THE ROADS ONLY FOR US TO FIND MY SONS BUS SKIDDING DOWN THE ROAD TO PICK HIM UP. (NO I DID NOT PUT HIM ON THE BUS AFTER SEEING HER SKIDING SIDEWAYS)THOSE BUSES SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ON THE ROAD. IM ASSUMING THE TRANS DEPT. CHECKED THE ROADS EARLIER THAT MORN THEN WENT TO WORK AND FORGOT ABOUT THE SNOW. DID ANYONE EVER CHECK THE ROADS AGAIN TO SEE HOW THEY WERE? WE ALL KNOW HOW IT IS IN SO MD WHEN IT SNOWS AND ITS LIKE THIS BECAUSE WE DONT GET TO MUCH. WHY DIDNT THEY SEND THESE BUSES HOME? IT SCARED ME TO SEE THIS BUS SKIDDING AND THESE OTHER BUSES INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS. TO ALL YOU BUS DRIVERS YOU DID A GREAT JOB WITH NO HELP FROM ST MARYS COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD.

Do NOT blame the St. Mary's County School Board!!!
Once buses are en route they cannot simply be turned around and sent home and leave kids standing at bus stops.
The school board made the right decision and in a timely manner.
The school board did NOT blow it! Until you walk in their shoes do NOT judge their decisions.

YOU SOUND LIKE YOU WORK FOR THE SCHOOL BOARD!!!!!!!!! AND WHEN YOUR CHILD GETS HIT DUE TO A 10,000 POUND BUS SLIDDING OUT OF CONTROL BY TRYING TO STOP AT THE BUS STOP JUST REMEMBER ITS NOT SMCPS FAULT! EVIDENTALLY YOU HAVE NEVER DRIVEN A BUS FULL OF SOMEONE ELSES PRECIOUS CARGO!I DROVE A BUS YEARS AGO IN ANOTHER COUNTY SO DONT TALK ABOUT WALKING IN SOMEONES SHOES. NOONE WANTS THAT PHONE CALL THAT THEIR CHILD HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I BLAME SMCPS BECAUSE THEY SHOULD HAVE REACCESSED AFTER THE 1ST RUN AS THEY HAVE DONE IN PREVIOUS YEARS. MAYBE YOU DONT EVEN REALIZE THAT YOU CAN REACCESS THE SITUATION. TAKE SOME TIME AND LEARN THE JOB AND LEARN THE NEEDS OF THE CITIZENS AND THEIR CHILDREN OF ST MARYS COUNTY AND I WILL GUARANTEE YOU THAT YOU WONT HAVE BUSES UPSIDE DOWN IN THE ROAD. TAKE A LOOK AT THE BUS ON THIS PAGE UPSIDE DOWN ON HURRY ROAD. REALITY IS IF THAT BUS HAD CHILDREN ON IT, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER. AND FOR YOUR INFO 6 YEARS AGO SCHOOL WAS CALLED OFF AFTER THE HIGH SCHOOL WAS TAKIN IN AND BEFORE THE ELEMENTARY WAS PICKED UP. I WAS AT THE BUS STOP WITH MY SON AND WAS VERY HAPPY THEY CANCELLED SCHOOL AT 830 AM. THANKFULLY WE HAVE A WONDERFUL BUS DRIVER AND I DO REALIZE SHE IS NOT A MIRACLE WORKER WHEN IT COMES TO ICE. YOUR NOT GONNA STOP ANYTHING SLIDING ON ICE. I AM READING OF 3 BUS ACCIDENTS YESTERDAY. THEY COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF DECISIONS WHERE MADE PROFESSIONALLY INSTEAD OF SLAPHAPPY. SOUNDS TO ME YOU WORK FOR THE SCHOOL BOARD NOW GO TO YOUR DESK AND HAVE ANOTHER CUP OF COFFEE.

I don't know why you are so upset with the public schools. At 6:19 when my middle schooler got on the bus it wasn't even snowing. At 8:20 when my elementary child got on the bus it was snowing and had just starting sticking to the grass. Once I realized that we were going to get more snow then the weatherman initially thought I decided to go and pick both children up sometime around 10:00 am. even though they were getting out 3 hours early (which would have been at 11:05 and at 1:30). We were not supposed to get that much snow and it was not supposed to be that early. And breezy2 summed it up by saying that the final decision to send your child on the bus is the parents.

I remember just a couple of years ago when the school board closed school for the day because the weather forcast called for a "chance" of freezing rain and snow. It ended up raining all day and I can't tell you how many irrate parents there were. People were calling the radio station and bashing the public schools for letting the kids out for rain.

Oh and by the way STOP YELLING AT EVERYBODY.

NO, I do not work for the school board...and I agree with mom-of-3. When my son left for school it was not snowing...when I left later for work, it was not snowing. And I still feel the board did a great job. Last year they called school off for possible snow and the sun came out! And the superintendent got ragged on for that decision. I don't appreciate being yelled at for having an opinion..and thank you - I will have another cup of coffee.

Common sense
I am a mother of two. My son is in kindergarten the a St. Mary's County Public School and when I woke up and saw that school was opening on time, I made the decision to keep him home. I knew what the weather reports were saying and I chose to keep him home and safe with me. As parents, the final decision to put our kids on the bus is ours. I trust my own judgement more than strangers in a central administration office. The safety of our children lies in our hands. Enough of the blame game.

i do myself blame the stmarys county public schools. my two children were on bus 608. luckely they were not hurt. when the bus picked my kids up the roads were indeed starting to get covered. i dont only blame the school system. i blame the drivers. i live on the main highway(235). when the snow started to cover the road, you had people still flying up and down the road.

So it is everyone's fault but your own? The roads were starting to cover with snow when you put your kids on that bus. Why put them on? Why not keep them home and safe? They ended up getting to school and coming back home in worse weather a few hours later. I can't comprehend blaming the school system and other drivers on the road when you had the final decision whether or not to put them on the bus. It is so sad that no one can take responsibility for their own decisions. It is so sad that people put their children in the hands of strangers instead of making the decision that best protects them.
