They Won, Here They Come!

On Dec. 28, the 10-5 Ravens hosted the 5-10 Jacksonville Jaguars at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, during the last regular season game of the year, that felt like a playoff game. The plan was simple: beat the Jaguars and you will have a chance as a Wild Card in the playoffs. We parked downtown near the Inner Harbor and walked to the stadium. We paused briefly at the RavensWalk located adjacent to the stadium. There was a huge screen TV showing the Patriots vs. Bills game, there was music playing and plenty of concessions to be had. I was one of the first in line to enter the stadium at 2:15 p.m., when the gates opened. After a brief pat down, I was in looking for my seat. This was only my second time to M&T stadium for a game. My brother-in-law and I walked half way around the concourse and finally found our section, section 125 row 15 seats 9 and 10. Excellent seats with a view of the 30 yard line, where kick offs are made from. The atmosphere was electric when the Ravens were announced onto the field. Fireworks and walls of flame were hardly enough to take your eyes off of the energized and persuasive team leader, Ray Lewis. Flacco looked like a seasoned veteran leading the offense down the field for almost 300 yards of passing. Some trickery was played into the offense also. Troy Smith came in and took the snap, he threw out to his right to Flacco, and Flacco then threw to the wide open Troy Smith which was tackled by his own shoe strings after he gained 36 yards on the ground. The Ravens defense showed up to the game on a mission, to end the Jaguars season, painfully. I can best describe the defense as stifling. The 71,336 fans in attendance showed their approval of the defense with head numbing cheering that at one point shut down the Jaguars offense with multiple penalties backing them up against the end zone. Four turnovers committed; two interceptions by the Ravens four-time Pro Bowl Safety Ed Reed and two fumble recoveries by the incomparable Ray Lewis. The final score was 27-7 and now the Ravens are looking forward to a rematch with the Dolphins in Miami next Sunday, January 4, in the AFC Wild Card game. The Ravens have already beaten the Dolphins this season 27-13 in Miami. THEY WON AND HERE THEY COME! |
