On Nov. 29 around 5:45 a.m., Senior Deputy First Class T. Fleenor was working in Wal-mart, when he noiticed Joseph Dale Thomas, 50 of Lexington Park, run out of Wal-mart carrying a large box followed by a store employee- yelling he just stole something.  Sdfc. Fleenor gave chase.

Thomas jumped into the passenger seat of a 1995 Chevy Truck which was parked in the far corner of the Wal-mart parking lot.  Sdfc. Fleenor approached the truck and tapped on the rear right quarter panel and ordered the driver, later identified as John Frederick Miller III and passenger Joseph Dale Thomas to stop, stating they were under arrest for theft.  Miller ignored Sdfc. Fleenor’s command, pressed on the gas and fled.  Sdfc. Fleenor put a broadcast out, with a description of the truck, occupants and tag number.  A short time later the truck was spotted by Trooper G. Thompson and stopped on Chancellor’s Run Road.

Sdfc. Fleenor responded, identified both the driver (Miller) and passenger (Thomas).  Between Miller and Thomas’s seats was a computer stolen from Wal-mart.  Further investigation revealed John Miller III had a current No Trespassing notice for Wal-mart and Joseph Thomas was also identified as the person who stole a Compaq desk top computer on Nov. 27.  All of the thefts were captured on the store security cameras.

Joseph Dale Thomas was charged with two counts of theft. John Frederick Miller III was charged with trespassing, theft, reckless driving and fleeing and eluding police.
