On Nov. 14 at 8:57 p.m., officers responded to the Westlake Exxon gas station at 3690 Crain Highway in Waldorf, for the report of a robbery.

Investigation revealed the suspect entered the store, displayed a knife and demanded money. The clerk complied and the suspect fled on foot toward Smallwood Drive. Acting on intuition, responding officers canvassed the VanGo bus lot at Smallwood Drive West and stopped a group of buses as they were leaving. The suspect attempted to flee by jumping out of the emergency door of one of the buses but was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit. Officers also recovered the money that was stolen during the robbery.

The suspect, James William Briscoe, 28 of King George, Va., was charged with armed robbery. He was remanded to the Charles County Detention Center with no bond.

Officer M. Smith made the apprehension.
