LEXINGTON PARK - 11/5/2008

What do you get when you take a famous plot – Shakespeare's, "The Tempest", stir in a B movie – "Forbidden Planet", drop into the thespian-laced stew the entire Shakespearean canon for dialogue and sprinkle the brew with popular songs from the '50s, '60s and '70s?

"Return to the Forbidden Planet" - a fun show for the entire family set to begin on Nov. 7 and playing through Nov. 23 in Lexington Park.

The Newtowne Players announce the production of Shakespeare's lost rock musical, "Return to the Forbidden Planet," directed by Dave Bayles.  Be prepared to sing either "Teenager in Love," "The Shoop-Shoop Song," "Shake, Rattle & Roll" or "All Shook Up," and it wouldn't be a Halloween production without "Monster Mash!" All played by a LIVE BAND!

The NTP call the recently renovated Three Notch Theatre home and are looking forward to this new production. Before becoming a theatre, the theatre served as the Lexington Park Library.

As a group, NTP tried several different places to perform. The theater troupe’s first true production was held in the basement of the former Do-Dah Deli in Leonardtown. That first play was received with much enthusiasm and was a success; however, the basement was not suitable as a permanent home.

NTP continued to look at a variety of venues, even performing in the streets for "Hot Summer Nights on Fenwick" and presented a "Mystery Dinner Theatre" at the Olde Breton Inn for the Knights of Columbus. The group presented different proposals to various groups to create a home for The Newtowne Players in St. Mary's County. NTP’s lease was approved by the Board of County Commissioners in Nov. of 2004, and has an option for up to 8 years.

The NTP is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit community theatre run by volunteers. For more information on volunteering, auditioning, sponsoring the theatre, upcoming events or how to reserve tickets, call (301) 737-5447 or visit www.newtowneplayers.org.
