That's a Wrap: Blue Crabs End Their Inaugural Season

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs ended its first-ever baseball season in the Atlantic League with a narrow 2 to 1 victory over rival Camden. on Sept. 21. 

 
 With 70 home games, the Blue Crabs showed
 many Southern Marylanders some good
 baseball.

 Southern Maryland’s first professional baseball team finished the season one game out of the playoff race. It was quite a first season for the baseball organization and the surrounding community in which the team plays half of its games.

 The team sprang into the Southern Maryland landscape on May 2 with a weekend of pomp, circumstance and fun for a community that has had no professional sports so accessible. The Blue Crabs opened with parades, rock concerts, magic and parachutes and a couple of wins.

 Manager, Butch Hobson did an admirable job with the players he had throughout the season. The team lost the league’s best starting pitchers, John Halama and Dan Reichert to the Cleveland Indians organization.

second half of the season with a 38-32 record, improving by four games over the first half of the season.

Fo r the community, Regency Furniture Stadium and the Blue Crabs hosted many events including an event for Breast Cancer Awareness and a Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society. The team and stadium also played host to Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and a number of other local charities.

 Now that the season is over for the Blue Crabs, the venue turns to concerts and meetings until next spring when the team returns for training and another year as Southern Maryland’s own professional baseball team.

Poor Stadium Design
My wife and I attended 8 games this season and had a great time each game but I have several complaints that I'm sure are shared by many baseball fans.
1. The stadium is a very poor design for baseball. In the majority of seats, you can't see the entire field. If the ball is hit into a corner, many, many fans can't see what happens. This is because the Stadium was designed to host concerts as well. The end of the seating bowl turns inward to allow for better concert viewing, but in doing so, cuts off the view of the field.
2. Concession pricing. Why does a .20 cent bottle of water have to cost $3.00. Why does the same soda that I pay 1.50 for at any 7-11 store cost $5.00?
3. Ticket prices. All seats are 1 price unless you want to sit in the jungle in right field. You might want to give some consideration to a lower price for kids.
4. Please give some consideration to having a police officer on duty after each game to direct traffic exiting onto Piney Church Rd. It would speed things along quite a bit after each game.

Need a police officer to direct traffic out of the parking lot. Or the stadium needs to provide their own traffic control. I can't tell you how many idiots don't realize that there are two left turn lanes and cut off the driver to their right. Dur!

I do have to disagree with seating and layout. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. I mostly sat behind home plate. But even high rows above the 3rd base line had good views.

Meanwhile, Blue Crabs customer service is aweful. It takes their "account executives" days or even weeks to respond to emails. I think my last inquiry is going on a month old now. If I responded as slow as they do, I wouldn't have any accounts.

If you sit behind home plate, you'll have a view of the entire field (if you don't mind looking through the protective netting!). If you sit anywhere behind the third base dugout you can not see the left field corner and if sitting behind the 1st base dugout, you can't see anything hit down the line or in the right field corner. It is what it is,and it's not a baseball only stadium. If you sit in the last 3 sections on either side, a ball hit into left or right field will cause you to have to look over your shoulder or even to turn around. That is why I say that it is NOT a good baseball stadium!!

mmhm...
Went there. Thought it was nice. Can't complain about the seating though. the price of drinks yes. $3.00 for a bottle of water is the same as going to Warped Tour(or sending your kids to Warped Tour) except there you cant have the lid to your water or soda. Remember children it can/could be worse.
